Welcome to week three of Flip It Friday!
This week I'm highlighting a special seat. Last year, North Carolina lawmakers were forced by the state's Supreme Court to redraw illegally gerrymandered districts. As a result, the N.C. 8th Congressional District is now in play for Democrats.
The candidate working to flip the seat blue is civil rights leader Pat Timmons-Goodson.
Week Four - Pat Timmons Goodson, NC 8th Congressional District
Pat has a long history fighting for justice in North Carolina, where she was the first Black woman elected to the state's Supreme Court. She was appointed to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in 2014 (which recommended changes in policing nationwide during her tenure), and she has the highest rating from the bar association. In 2016, President Obama nominated her to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court, but the Senate refused to act on the nomination (sound familiar?). Pat is backed by Emily's List.
How you can help:
Now, more than ever, we need leaders with Pat’s integrity and experience representing us in congress. Let’s work together to send Pat to Washington!
See you next Friday,
Claire
