Hello everyone and welcome to Flip It Friday week five!
An update from last week: we raised $438 to flip a Colorado Senate seat for John Hickenlooper! Thank you so much for every dollar donated!
Week Five: Candace Valenzuela, TX 24th Congressional District
This week I'm highlighting Candace Valenzuela, the Democratic candidate running to represent Texas' 24th district in the House.
Candace is an educator and she's passionate about improving and supporting the public school system. She was the first Black and Latina woman to serve on her local school board, where she prioritized expanding STEM programs, vocational training, and bringing coding classes to her district.
Candace's video announcing her candidacy is a must-watch. In it she describes experiencing homelessness as a child, and why protecting public education is so important to her. Candace has spent her life fighting for equal opportunities for Texas families, and she's exactly the kind of leader we need in congress.
How you can help:
Donate to Candace's campaign here.
Share her posts with your followers. Social posts are vital in campaigns this year, in light of the pandemic. Traditional campaign events are cancelled, so we have to take over social platforms! Share her video on Facebook, add her Instagram posts to your IG Story, and get the word out! Particularly if you have any followers who live in Texas, or who also want to help flip this seat!
Thank you so much to everyone who has signed up to receive this newsletter. I'm endlessly grateful to know so many people who want to see changes in Congress too, and who are willing to put in the work to get us there!
See you next Friday,
Claire
